Hi all,

I'm posting this thread because I'm still not sure when you can use samples and when not, and which samples are concerned.

I understand I can't simply use a phrase out of a movie or peice of music out of an excitsting song on one of my records without permission of some sort. Or are there situations were you don't have to ask permission? Or only when you start earning money with the track? And who should you ask for permission, and can they refuse it?

But another thing I am confused about: how about just instrument samples, or drum kit samples? When I download drumsamples without paying for them for example, can I use them in my production (after all, it is only a a snare, or a bassdrum, an acoustic sound) or is there some kind of copyright on that samples ?

thx for help

greetingz

Man nobody replies to this thread...

It really seemes that noboy exactely knows how to clear samples:D

If you didn't license the audio, then you can't use it...period. That's about as clear as it gets. Sampling other people's stuff is getting old. Buy a sound module, make some new sounds.
