something to remember as well is that depending on where your over heads are, a lot of the "snap" is coming from them, and the body of the snare is coming from the close mic. if you enter tracking with that mindset you might have better luck. Of course if you've got the bux then by all means upgrade, just keep in mind to not let equipment or the lack thereof become an excuse.
