That Norwegian Bastard
Hi I`ve been mixing down some old drum takes that I recorded a few weeks a go.

I seem to have gotten some Phasing on the snare track, the snare sounds good, but there is some Hi-hat leaking through and its phasing like mad.

Is there anyway of fixing this, or at least hiding it a bit.
everything else on the take sounds good its just that hi-hat coming through the snare mic.

thanks :)

nope, I`ll look into that.
thanks tim

If you have (I'm not sure what you are recording on) something like a Dbx 166a or 166 xl, you can run the snare through the channel, and patch an EQ into the "Key", and use the EQ to control the gate. Normally, when I track the snare (people are going to have a fit about this one) I run the snare through a dbx 166a. I put a drumtrigger on the snare, ans I'll plug the trigger into the Key input.
That way, the Microphone only opens when the Trigger fires. You have to adjust the gate prior to tracking, but it allows you to have the key open and close via the trigger's electronic pulse, rather than "airborn"" (sound picked up the snare mic) signals.
As long as you have it set so that it will allow some sustain on the drum, you can get a good drumsound this way.

I also do this with th Kick drums as well, even though half the time I'll just trigger the kick with a ddrum2 module.

If you are recording on a PC, it should be relatively easy to do, since there are some extremely powerful noise gate programs around. I used one on a Mac with Logic and it was incredible....it definitely convinced me that I want to go to recording on a PC....at least from the mixdown/production point of view....although I do like using outboard gear....it's just the wave of the future.

Thanks again Tim, I use a PC for recording.
I have a few Plugins that I will check out, I have a gate and eq so I should be able to try something.
Thanks :)

The simple thing to try is to cut some of the highs with your EQ, it wont completely stop it but it should cut down on a lot of the bleedover from the hats.
