Hi!
I have a kind of odd question , Im wondering what compressor
is making this snare sound...Im pretty sure its a compressor
Its this smack sound Im looking for, maybe you can do it with many compressors but not in the lower price range Im sure.

Anouk-"nobodys wife"

Foo fighters - many songs but you can hear it very pronounced in "Next year"

Hellacopters - i.e "toys and flavours"

...and many many more

You can't make a snare sound great just by using compression. If it doesn't sound like that just when you hit it, ýou'll have to tune it like that. Than, you can experiment with mic settings, room etc.

Or.. trigger...:o:o:o

there are a million factors that surround a snare sound.
the snare size, what its made out of,how deep is it,type of heads used, tuning, player style, type of stick used, type of room the drum was recorded in, type of mic used, type of pre used..........
you get the picture. the bottom line is everything matters.

Yes I know there`s alot of things that can alter a snare sound, I´ve been recording for many years, but never got this kind of snare sound. I have heard it on so many recordings now...I dont mean the snare sound itself, just that the smack in the drum.
It sounds a little distorted, wet and plastic. :)

Anyway, I love it

Sometimes if you "over EQ" say a bottom mic (if using it) or something like that you can emphasize different characteristics of the drum. If you have a mixing board with sweepable EQ then sweep until you find a sound that is more pleasing. If you are using a DAW, go for a parametric EQ and set the Q narrow. Then sweep down from 20k slowly until you find a useful sound. If nothing works trying widening Q.

If nothing else works still, get another snare drum, or buy Drumagog!
