I took a shot at sodering some XLR cables. Just about the time I was patting myself on the back for getting my mic hooked up to the mixer, I twisted the rubber end of the connector and got a little ear buzz (thank God I had the volume low!).

With a little investigation it seems that there is always a low hum going, and the spikes come when one of the sodered connections rub up against the metal sheath.

Of course the obvious solution is not to have any exposed wire, and do a better job of sodering...but is there something to check regarding the buzz or to minimize the potential feedback noises?

this is what i am currently fearing. im undertaking a large pricess including mix cables, all patching, and multichannel snakes. im think im doing pretty well... but i just hope im doing someting really wrong wihout knowing.
