Is it OK to use a stage snake w/box for studio use. Will quality suffer? Are there any other options for distancing the control room?

No worries!
Go for it, no problem at all. The quality won't be any worse than it would be on stage
If you want to class it up a bit, build a small box that will fix the snake and mount it on/in the wall
They are a lot cheaper than having a custom snake made and I wouldn't worry about 'quality' issues at all.

I have a Rapco 8 XLR x 4 TRS 100 foot snake that I use for live recording and have not noticed any significant signal loss.

The only problems I can see is having super long cables in your snake and having multiple cables all near each other. Long cables CAN downgrade quality and cables touching each other CAN create buzz. But all of this is possible to avoid, which is why I put big uppercase CANs. Just buy a quality snake with quality cables and you'll be fine.

The only problem I have come across is when using phantom power with a poor quality snake (not mine). If it's a good quality snake no problem.
I have a home made 36' canare cable snake in the studio never had a problem. Out on my live rig PA or recording have a 100' Beldon snake never had a problem.
What I think guitarplayr82 is referring to is to not have mains leads running parallel and touching against the side of the snake. This can induce mains hum. Over a short distance you won't get any problems if it's a long distance you just nee a few inches in between.
