i need an 8 xlr to 8 xlr snake, about 40 feet long...i planned on buying one, but the shortest one i can find is 100 ft...and i'm afraid of signal deterioration. also, i don't want to pay for to length when i don't need it.

so can someone help me out? i'm not sure where to get get cable, what kind of cable to get...maybe someone could direct me to a place that makes custom snakes...

if you could help, i'd be very greatful.

The larger Sam Ash stores if you have one nearby will make snakes for you. I've done it in the past in a pinch, but the quality depends on the guy/gal soldering them up.

You can also buy cable on the web, a bunch of connectors (XLR or TRS) and solder them up yourself. Here are some links for cables and connectors...

Ghetto...

You can also call Gepco in Chicago... they custom build everything so you can get the exact length you want... GREAT stuff too... they do an excellent job.

I've been fitting all my new purchases in the studio with Gepco stuff... I highly recommend it.

Surely, if your using XLR, then the amount of signal degridation isn't so severe due to the noise cancelling properties of a balanced signal.

you may end up paying more for a 'custom made' cable than you would for the 100ft cable...

just a thought.
