Hi.

I have an AT4040 and am wondering if smoking cigarettes in a non ventalated average house room will affect the unit in the long run, cheers, Ste.

Maybe. Clean your windows. Look at the rag when done. That is what's getting on everything in the room, including your mic and eyeballs.

Keep the cigarette smoke away from all gear, I don't even like smokers singing into my mics but there is not much you can do about that. A layer of tar will coat the diaphragm of the mic.

In my early days of pub PA systems, the in house gear was clogged with smoke tar and all the white controls turned yellow. We removed an in house PA after 3 years use and the graphics for the fold back (that had been set for 3 years) were gummed in place and would not move.

Alan.

The force is less than strong I think, the cigarettes are back in. I'll buy a new one when the time comes.

It usta be thought of that all those old Neumman microphone got their character from everyone smoking in the studio.

They were wrong!
