Smile For The Ages
Tim Perry © 2001

Verse 1:
Every day’s a challenge. Every step upon the floor.
Every night she fights to keep the goblins from her door.
Her tears come down in torrents, but they never last for long.
For her soul holds many troubles, but her heart knows many songs.

Verse 2:
She makes her friends so easily. There’s something in her eyes
That sees some inner beauty when the cynic sees a lie.
When her heart is thrown in turmoil, crashing hard upon her sleeve.
She latches onto someone, finds a reason to believe.

Chorus:
She’s got a….. smile for the ages.
Even when the world has got her down.
Everyday...she turns the pages.
And finds the strength to hold her ground.

Verse 3
Her face takes in the sunshine and her eyes reflect the stars.
Her head is filled with music and she sings with all her heart.
She loves with no condition. And she laughs until she cries.
Her footsteps may be heavy, but her spirit’s free to fly.

Verse 4
I stand here in my wonderment, wishing that I had
Her kind of wide-eyed trust that finds the good among the bad.
My heart is hers to keep, forever joined, forever sure.
For in her smile I see forever young, forever pure.

Chorus:
She’s got a….. smile for the ages.
Even when the world has got her down.
Everyday...she turns the pages.
And finds the strength to hold her ground.

Nice! good imagery.

This is a wierd suggestion....But I would change

"but they never last for long. "

to

but they never last that long.

Just how I heard it in my head. and this verse stuck out to me, not in a good or bad way, I will have to hear the music to see if i like the way it fits.

"I stand here in my wonderment, wishing that I had
Her kind of wide-eyed trust that finds the good among the bad"

All in all, I really like it!

Thanx Matt.

The line you mention, “never last for long” is sung more like “never last f’long.” It’s a blend that fits the melody well, I think. It’s tough evaluating lyrics without moosic, that’s why the mp3 link. And incidentally, this song is my first stab at home recording on my computer. It’s kinda coarse, but I’m happy with how it turned out overall.

Yea, normally I would listen to the music before I comment....But I am at work, and my boss is quite near, and might wonder How much work is getting done if my speakers were going off with some strange music...;)

So next chance when bossy is gone I will take a listen...
