is that smell like burning electrics, like a bad wire? Or is it just the smell of new wood and lacquor? what mechanism?

often it is the case which stinks, probably the glue used or the dyed fake fur which lines them, as stench which can impregnate the guitar. I personally love the stench of acoustic guitar entrails. what's not to like about wooden guitar parts?

come to think of it, this whole thread stinks.

pchorman,
I'm with you. I love that smell; it reminds me of an old girlfriends' sneakers.

Twist

I have noticed that some accoustic guitars have bad manners and they dont really clean themselves. I guess it comes down to bad upbringing. The best thing to to is make it feel loved and guide it, its not an easy life. I have a number for a guitar phsyciatrist, he is really good with delinquint guitars, if anyone can help, it would be him. Otherwise you could explain to him that its unsocial to be smelly and that he would probably never get lucky, because just like humans, female guitars dont like smelly men.

I hope this helps, otherwise you can call the smelly guit helpline: 0800 1233 1233

toss a pair of cedar cubes in the pick pocket of the guitar case. You can score them at any hardware or drug store. Totally natural wood so it won't risk a chemical deal.

Is this a new guitar or .. uh .. "used?"

The reason I ask is that once I got a great deal on an Alvarez-Yairi dreadnaught. What a thing of beauty. Big hardshell case. Took it home to my apartment and we all passed it around. It was a cold day, and the apartment was rather warm. I soon found out one reason it had been such a good deal.

The thing had fleas.

Get out!
Thats shocking.
ANyways its new alright and its not a woody smell. I'm gonna try the ceder blocks
Thanx
