Smart Snap, Not So Smart

Ive recently switched from protools to logic...
When i click on the music bar that i want to start at, the playhead will look like it is On beat BUT many times it is not and i will need to zoom in and line it up! I watch my friends edit in logic and they dont seem to have this problem.. Any suggestions?

Having the edit/snap mode set to 'bar' or 'beat' instead of the default 'smart' might solve the problem. This will force the cursor to make cuts or place objects on the grid.
