small wave when recording

im using cubase sx3

im having trouble when i record a track from my mic i get small waves my soundcard is (tascam us-428) and my mic is (MXL9000)is there a setting in cubase to get more signal from my mic need help ASAP
 
In the lower right corner of your arrangement window the are two sliders. The vertical one is for increasing/decreasing the vertical size of the wave and the horizontal one for the horizontal size.
 
i talkin about the acutal wave i trun the track vol. to 6 still sound soft not loud need help asap
 
Without a better explanation about your setup and what you are actually doing it's all a guess on how to improve it. I'm going to guess the problem is you need phantom power for your mic since it's a condensor mic and it looks like the tascam doesn't provide that. Get yourself a preamp with phantom power.
 
What is the track in question peaking at and what is the average output level?
 
Not an ideal solution but you could 'normalise' the file... this would boost it to the max...
The other 'non-pro' thing you could do is, work the whole mix out with the quiet wavs, do a mix down and process the completed project wav with a master limiter vst. Plenty of free ones online. That will the entire mix to the max.

At least let's not point to that when it's not clear yet if the OP has the basics (gain staging?) sussed out. :)
 
i got preamp with phantom power for the mic it records under -2 ( with tasacam knob 1 trun to max ---mic input----)

could it be the mic cable wire going bad ?

You're recording it too hot. Try recording around -18dbfs and raise the gain after you record.
 
I've had this problem ...

Go into

Devices > Mixer

Speak into the mike and look for the input meter showing your input signal. Speak loudly since your signal is low. Once you find it peg the slider up to 11 and that is all you can do from inside cubase.

You may need a better soundcard or more likely a preamp.
