Reciever or Amplifier, new or used for about 200 bucks? I got screwed out of a Denon one I wanted, so now I need to find something else. Actually, a surround sound one might be nice, but not necessary. It would be for use with a pair of Paradigm Titans or B&W DM303s.

I'm thinking something like the samson servo 260 or hafler TA1600.

200 pezzutos? Methinks you might look around a bit but won't find too much with "quality."

The Yamaha AX 592 is what I use in my home studio. It will let you plug in TWO sets of speakers -- one might be hi-&-Fi and the other, monitors, which is what I have going.

This amp will also let you run two cassette decks either way, a DAT, and CD player and you can record from any of them wherever you push the buttons.

And, as many would say, This type of amp may color your sounds?

Nay, nay, nay. The amp has a "clear-through" switch and it negates any coloration -- and it also has internal settings and one is to set the sound at absolute FLAT.

But, alas amigo, this amp runs around 500 pezzutos. Maybe you can hit your girlfriend up for a few bucks?

Well, I really like this unit because it also has a plug-in for a turntable which I have plugged in!

It is an integrated amp and not the normal choice but I dig it.

Green Hornet :D :p

Though the Samson amps are clearly not pro equipment they are in my opinion perfectly adequate for the aveage home recordist (like me). I run a Servo 170 into a pair of Tannoy Reveals and it servers my needs just fine, perhaps a few more watts would be useful but living in a town you would be pushing it anyway without spending a years wages on soundproofing!

The truth is that unless you are running top line pre amps/mixers/recorders then i personally think that the amp will be the last thing you have to worry about.

Just my penny worth.

im thinkin of going with the hafler. its probably worth the extra 100 bucks.

alright, i checked out the parasounds. and i bid and won on a parasound hca-1000a for $232.50. Did i get a good deal?

I'd go with the Hafler. I love the noise floor on that TA1600.

The specs tell me that I'd love the P3000. My wallet tells me that the TA1600 is good enough for who it is for.

well, thanks for sayin that now. lol. now that i've already bought the parasound one. the specs on the parasound seem very good too, so im not worried. besides, its thx ULTRA certified! woohoo.

While your on the subject. I have a Crown DC150. It is getting a bit long in the tooth. I traded some Maui Wauwi for it years ago from a jingle singer who had a huge mansion and full out studio in the carriage house. Back then, only the rich had home studios. I

After its tenure in Mr. Fancy Singer's fancy studio, it worked as the amp for my live keyboard rig for while. At times it did duty as my home stereo but that was usually temporary. After begin retired from the road, it spent time in a small 4 track studio back in the 80s. Throughout the 90s it only came out as a spare when the home stereo was on the fritz. For the later part of the 90s it was a door stop. In 2001 it was resurected one more time for my home studio and is now running a pair of Event 20/20s.

At times, the right channel goes out. I have opened it up, cleaned out the gunk and dust and fiddled with th ewires a bit and usually, this gets all channels working again.

The question, is, now that you know its history. Should I retire this amp and if so, what should the replacement be. Further, should I retire the amp and speakers and get some Mackies. Lastly, should I get some Mackies and relegate the Crown and Events to surround detail.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I wouldn't do the latter, ideally. You wanna try to have all matching speakers for surround sound mixing. I'd keep the amp tho if its nice. You never know when those things will come in handy.

If it's HCA-1000A not the regular 1000 then it's a good price. This is the newer model. Now if you have some spare cash spend it on good quality cables.

Cheers

I got my amp finally. It's pretty nice. The high end I didnt notice much of a difference in, which I expected to, but life's full of surprises. What I did notice was the difference in midrange and low midrange clairity. I can hear stuff going on I never noticed before. Kick drums especially I've notice sound a lot more kicky instead of blended together with the bass guitar. It's quite an amazing amp.

I do have a problem with it tho, which is beginning to anger me. I dont think its the amp actually. There's a hum that isn't easily heard unless you put your head very close to the speaker. When I unplug everything from the amp, the hum goes away. Also when I take the amp out of the rack, still conected, the hum gets considerably quieter. I think its the stupid ass behringer mixer not being properly grounded. I tried to make isolation tabs with rubber washers but they didnt seem to work. What should I do?!
