Hi, Can you guys recommend a preamp to use with a sm57. I am recording electric blues guitar. Budget about $1000. thanks, fitter
P.S. Thanks in advance.

Great River ME-1NV or similar would be a nice choice. I don't have one (yet), but they seem to rock the 57 (and many other mics).

Groove Tubes Brick for around $400. You could also use it as a DI when needed. Nice tube sound while still remaining open.

If you look around you might also be able to find a used Vintech 1272 for that price, but I don't know if I would want that as my only preamp. It's a steal for the money but you might need something a little cleaner first.

I haven't tried on but the Grace model for around $500 is supposed to be pretty good.

And in the under $200 range the M-audio dmp3 is awesome.

yep, i agree 100%, go great river. you'll be amazed what it can do to a 57, assuming you've got the 57 somewhere it belongs....

Guys, thanks for the input. I will look into all of them.

P.S. Wesley, I am going to use the 57 on a 70s gibson les paul goldtop, thru a early 60s gibson ga-8t combo. No pedals.

rockin man. i've recorded 70's gold top pauls before, and they've come out wonderfully full and almost woody (both times through an orange, how odd! pry a lot of the tone was cause of this...)

take your time to experiment with mic placement, that's what i was meanin' by that comment.
