Sm7 with a Firepod?

Hello,

I am thinking of buying a nice voiceover mic and am looking at the SM7.

I have a Presonus Firepod and a Firewire 410 for sound interfaces.

For those who are familiar with this equipment, will my pre-amps have enough clean gain to record with the SM7?

Thanks

Definitely

SM 57 with Firepod will work fine -- pre's are nice and clean and you've got 8 channels to choose from to plug it in!

I'm not sure, the spec on the Firebox says max gain is +55dB . . . if that is accurate, it seems a little thin to me for the SM7, which as I recall is -59dBV/Pa sensitivity. I don't have a problem with my M80 which is +72dB gain

Further reading the manual, I see that 0dBFS is +18dBu, which is +16dBV, thus at +55dB gain and a 94dBSPL source, you're at -20dBFS.

Certainly I'd try the SM7 before I'd buy. I could be wrong about the Firebox, Presonus can be a little vague in their specs, at +18dBu = 0dBFS is a little hotter than normal.

Thanks,

How about the Firewire 410?

I am looking to buy one nice dynamic mic to be used as a studio voiceover mic as well as a live recording mic for bass drum, bass cabs, or trumpet/sax.

Any suggestions would be great.

I have some nice condensers and some other sm57 type dynamics, but am looking for one really nice mic (I know that is relative) for the above uses.

Thanks
