I'm sure I'll have a few cynics eager to chime with their browbeating competition of quickest to put down, but...

My newly bought, a few weeks, one use old SM57 now reacts to sound with a distorted rumble. I've read on the Shure site that sometimes the grill is loose and needs to be literally glued down. But, I'm micing an acoustic guitar for crying out loud, not an amp or drum.

I suppose I'm going to try and redeem the 2-year warranty, unless someone knows some sort of fix.

Thanks,
Jacob

I was going to record 6 new songs this weekend, arrrrrrg

It could be the mic or anything in its signal chain. What are you using for a mic pre? It could be your problem. How about your cables. How about your gain structure? What are you recording to? Give us a little more info and maybe we can help.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of...

My final conclusion was made after I tried my cheap Radio Shack mic with the same xlr cable, and I didnt get the distortion.

I'm going to test it all again shortly, as perhaps I did miss something, and I hope I did...
