A lot of people use the 57 including me but what does everyone else think? What do you think are it's good and bad points?

I love the SM57. I use it for classical guitar. Not for flamenco though.

Here is a video that shows just how awesome the 57 can sound on a guitar.

Cheers yeah I usually use it with guitar, also snare's can come out sounding pretty good using it to

The reason people say you can't go wrong is that an SM57 is relatively inexpensive, can take a massive amount of abuse, will pretty much last forever and is extremely versatile.

Everyones mic locker should have at least one SM57 and one SM58. The amount of things these mics can be used for is Huge.

Alan.

And, if you eat crappy steak at Denny's, Heinz 57 can add life to an overcooked piece of beef.

Wait, wrong forum..I just became a troll huh? :)

Post reported. :)

What happens if I report a mod's post? Do I get in trouble? lol

Naw, we are adhered to the rules as well. But, you could neg rep me. I am almost maxed out now, and having issues with my age, so cut me down yo!!

lol!

Excellent for hand to hand combat if you're not packing a truncheon and get assaulted by a baddie. I never leave home without one..

I used to use the 57 for guitar amps and snare drums until I discovered the evolution 900 series by Sennheiser. To me, the e906 (not to be confused with the e609) sounds far better when A/B'ing them side by side.

...But that's just me.

Though I've seen many, I've never used the 57 in my life. :spank:Perhaps I will one day. :guitar: In the meantime I use a 58 :facepalm:occasionally since the rumour on the wire :wtf: is that they're the same thing excepet for a cosmetic ball head......:D :p

I have 7 sm57s because they always work for everything, they might not be the BEST choice but they always at least work and sound acceptable on everything I've ever used them on. For the money and versatility they're totally worth it, everyone should have at least one.
