ive tried recording with this and all results seem to be very muffled and muddy no matter my eq on my amp (tsl 60) or mixer (Behringer Eurorack MX1602)

ive also tried mic placement...

could my problem be that i dont have a mic pre-amp and if so are there any that you recommend?

If this is posted in the wrong place please move it accordingly.

Hopefully,

Joe

Your Behringer mixer has preamps. It sounds like there is more likely something wrong with mic. Excatly what sort of mic placement have you used. Generally, if you point the mic more toward the cone, you will get more sizzle.

its an SM 57 and its just of axis about a thrid of the way to the edge of the speaker ar 4 o'clock. Everything just seems to be muddy, with lack of clarity and presence.

it also sounds like its clipping maybe? but the volume isn't cliping on the meter.

actually, its more rough....really edgy, brittle and thin.

Im not to sure to be honest, i dont really know about much to do with recording...just dabbling around for a little bit of uni work.

Any more ideas anyone?

I don't know if this helps...im kinda looking for a thrashy type sound from my TSL60 head.

the gains at 9, trebble at 8, mids at 6 and bass at 4. The Presence it around 9 too.

Any help from Gearheads?

Could this Amp EQ be adding to the poor recording quality, i.e. clarity wise.

If anyone has any tips id be grateful.

Thanks
