slower electronic/rockish song

Hey guys, this is a rough take on a new song im working on. All comments and critque always welcome. Some of the vocals I plan on redoing for sure, but thats no excuse. You guys always help a ton, thanks alot in advanace.

Wow...nice sounds, and good buildup to this..pretty cool tune man...
No real nits from me...I like the bottom end on this...sounds really good. Maybe bring the main vocal up a little, but not too much.

That's one of the reasons I hang out here - to get an idea what these genres sound like. I learn a lot....

To the mix - nice writing, with several changes to keep it flowing and interesting. Smooth delivery overall. Nice tones on the guitars and drums....

Until the guitars came in I thought the vocals were too far up front. they sit very nicely with the guitar section though.
Good recording & "processing" - nice to hear you didn't go for generic guitar tones too.
The only suggestion I'd make is to make the drums MORE synthetic & industrial. They are politely machine like at present & I'D like to hear them more aggressive.

I agree with Ray about the drums. Very good vox.

I'd also bring up the "na na na na... na na" backing vocal that comes in at 1:06. That's a cool part but it gets a little lost behind the main vocal and mix. Might have to be EQd or panned differently since it's similar in spectrum to the main vocal. Why does that BG vox remind me of classic rock stuff by the Turtles?

I don't know what this genre requires in general. But I love the different textures...From big and bass, to AM Radio-ish sounding in the "scat" parts I would still say the vocals are bit too up-front, even when the guitar comes in...Just a bit...But very cool arrangement and tune.

Deep deep heavy sound Gary, nice. Honestly your mixes always sound complex and hard to nit pick to me. Always good sounds Good builds, just love those little quiet vocal parts mixed in there. Cool solo and ending too. Maybe could use some freaky piano in there too, like maybe the outro, always like that in Goth type songs like this. Cheers man, good tune

bigbubba - thanks a ton for the listen. I can't say im actually "goth" or anything like that. Funny enough what i listen to alot of the time and what i write certainly don't relate in anyway so i can certainly see where your coming from.

Idol - I agree 100 percent. I come here and hear all sorts of things im not familiar with, even if i don't respond i probably listen to every single song posted when my computer allows. Thanks alot for the nice comments.


RayC - thats a great idea, i love the idea of more synthetic drums. I'll certainly give it a whirl in a few days when im not sick of hearing the song. Thanks so much for the comments.

Tim - Thanks so much for the comments. I agree the backgrounds could come up, maybe i can double them for the louder parts. I like to experiment with doing things not normally found in this genre, i like to think i'm not doing whatever everyone else is but who doesn't htink that?

Rami - Thanks alot for the comments, thats what i thought too was they were too loud but i always hear "they're too quiet" so i try to push them up more. I think it might be an eq thing and they're maybe not sitting right with the song.


Snake - Thanks alot, i don't know how complex i get but i know i always feel a step behind when it comes to mixiing. I like the idea of the piano part towards the end I love throwing in piano parts into songs.

The sond of the backing is very clean and processed sounding, very clear. In this instance I would suggest looking at the vocals in terms of how tight and out front they are. Since the rest of the music has no inherant acoustic space it gives you an oppurtunity to play with the space of the vocals. One thing to be aware of is that the very clean sound of the music is going to make the vocals sound a bit artifical as well. IF this is the sound you want then you have it! Perhapos all that is left is to play with the subtleties of the sound; everything is a bit "in your face" and that contributes to the artifical and flat sound of the piece.
