Sorry, but I was wondering if you lot knew some good ideas about stopping the annoying squeak you get whenever you slide. The only thing that I've found works is pressing down so hard your fingers could almost bleed. Not good.

Any ideas?

What kind of slide?
What size strings?
Acoustic/Electric?

Normal finger sliding. Not with a glass slider if thats what you thought I meant. Just when I need to get from one lot of frets to others very quickly....

Size of strings I have no idea, because I only just got this guitar and its already stringed....

Semi Acoustic.

ive heard eating a bucket of kfc before playing helps..

Tried WD40? It's supposed to stop anything from squeaking. Flatwound strings might be the answer if you dont mind the duller sound.

Although I took it as a joke... c7 is right...

Unless you make it clear that you are joking, someone will undoubtably try something like that.

You ruined my guitar! ;) Just kidding.
I wouldn't be that stupid (hides the remains).

Anyway as this thread has turned into a kinda joke I'm trying to work if anyone actually means what they say.

:)

OK anyway I've found out that Elixir strings do exist (/me blushes as he tells everyone that he thought it was a joke to do with the fantasy of living forever :()

So althought they sound good, how much of a difference would it actually make on the squeak. The problem is if I play normally the squeak is actually louder than the notes so..... :)

Cheers

I don't use Elixir's myself, I use Black Diamond Black Coated strings on my Electric guitar, bass and acoustic. Squeaks are mostly all gone. I've read that some of the endorsers of coated strings switch to them because they do cut down on squeaks. Nothing like cringing when you listen to a world class acoustic player and there's these piercing squeaky/squacky noises when they're doing alot of position changes.

My guess is you'll either love or hate coated strings. They do sound different. But I personally like the warmer, rounder (non-piercing) sound of coated strings. You can get a kind of sound similar to an amplified nylon string guitar with the Black Diamonds.

Sorry about the WD40 thing, I hope no one took me seriously, I was just kind of poking fun at their adds.

Dani Pace: Well I didnt :)

DaisyCutter: I'll have a look at those Black Diamond things. Thanks

I know this sounds strange, but, if you want a bit if lubrication on your fretting fingers, rub the bridge and side of your nose with them,. Your fingers will pick up the natural skin oil that tends to concentrate there, and slide smoother and with less squeak.
