slant or straight?

My bro is getting a new cab for his H&K triamp. i've got a few questions...

I know that Black Sabbath used to only get straight 4x12 cabinets. what do you guys think? does it matter if it's straight or slanted?

And what kind of cabinet. should he get a matching Hughes & Kettner cabinet or a Mesa? what would sound best?

Straight or slanted? Does he want the sound to fill the the room or just the one area?
 
i talked to him he doenst know what he's talking about. I suppose 'filling up the whole room' sounds cooler. but he plays lead, i thi nk staying in the one area would sound cool for lead. what do you think?

and what kind of cabs sound good?

Ive played with both slanted and straight, and I honestly didn't notice much difference.
Locus is right about the purpose of the straight vs. slanted though as far as where the sound is being aimed.

Mesa vs H&K - Mesa makes great tight cabs. I loved the Mesa I played though, although it was a Bi*ch to lug around as it was twice as heavy as the Marshall 4x12 I played though. Something about the wood type or density used I think.
Ive only played though a H&K cab once and it sounded good. They generally make quality products IMHO.

Get the slanted. It looks cooler. There probably isn't much difference, but, the purpose of lead is to be out front, right? Make the sound go everywhere. Those straight cabs are only good for full stacking.......
 
If you are playing guitar ,standing on stage,your head level is above the speaker cabinet.Straight cabs often shoot the sound past you at that lower level.It seems funny to think a guitar player would have trouble hearing his loud amp when the audience hears it fine (because they are seated and the cab is at ear level for them).So slant cabs give the player that little bit of "monitor" by aiming some of the sound up to the players ear level.Definately go slant.Besides,it does look cool!
