I've added a couple more geets to the collection this weekend...it's pretty much a situation that has gotten completely out of hand. I'm going to schedule myself for some counceling some time late next year maybe...we'll see if the wife calms down or not.

Anyways, I've been surfing the net and these forums and I'm not finding a lot of options for sturdy stands that hold say...14 guitars. Maybe more. I've got my eye on a tasty looking semi-hollow Hamer. Oops...there I go again. I'm thinking about something custom, something I could build on my own but I need a good picture or design of something to work from.

I know...most are going to say...put them in their cases but, I'm not gonna do it. I've got a very nice stable, humidity controlled space for them so, really my mission is simply to stand them up securely, save a little space (likely a lot) over the usual tri-pod stands and just as important, something that looks nice.

I'm handy in the wood shop. How about tossing out a few ideas.

I've fallen in love with the Peavy Wolfies they can be had still very clean to near new for a decent price. I also scored a lightly used EB JPM. That makes two each.

I'll try to get round to getting a couple pics up. I've never done that here before. Not quite sure how...I'll hack at it and get back to ya.

But, I really need a better place for them ya know

Guitar hangers

Ok, here is a picture of a multi-guitar hanger my wife had a woodworking friend build and was a present, it is red oak very nice! Also a picture of a single guitar hanger I built as a design class project 20 some years age...I think I sold about 10 of these as part of the course. Hope these may help a bit.

Oh yeah totally different, the guy that built the multi has a great woodworking setup, he made all of the hangers adjustable, so if the guitars were slim bodied, you could fit a 7th guitar in there maybe. The Sheraton and the Resonator are too wide for that but he did some designing on it for sure.
The single is all totally my fault, I had a lot of hardwood strips so I just laminated them and went from there. I think it was black walnut, yellow poplar, red oak, poplar and walnut again, with poplar for the hanger arms.

Lets see if this works....A pic of my new/used friends. The EB looks green (in this light) but it's a Mystic Dream Model...it has a deep sexy color shifting paint which looks from deep purple to green to black when the lighting changes.

Thanks...that gives me some ideas. I'm kojitatun on how to hang them more sideways or at a slight angle to the wall..that might save even more room.

There's tons of options....

You can make a nice looking stand for as many guitars as you want for little to nothing out of wood. Don't know if there's anyone else here from Michigan, but at Elderly Instruments in Lansing, all their electric guitars are displayed on homemade stands. Basic frame of 2x6's with base boards that angle into a shallow v, covered in carpeting. Then another cross bar at neck level with cutouts for each instrument. They have a top level as well, so you could easily fit 20 guitars along 5 feet of wallspace with a tiny footprint. Depends on whether your hell bent on facing the guitars outwards. I prefer mine in a "rack" all facing parallel to each other, but perpendicular to the rack/wall behind. I hope that makes sense. I made a simple rack of this sort out of junk tongue & groove I had laying around and some 1x's. I would just build a rack to the space you have. Look at how big you want it to be, and go from there. When I move into my new house, I'm gonna build a rack with the bottom level being racked guitars and the top being two or three hangers to display the nicer instruments with. Saves a ton of space. Just some ideas. Good luck.
