Why do people buy big multiple room dwellings and good tasting food when they can live in a cardboard box and eat dirt?

'Coz a mixer with good preamps costs at minimum well into 5 figures?

Which is fairly ridiculous. Why couldn't someone develop a good small board somewhere along the line of the Soundcraft M series, with preamps in the Sytek or RNP quality range? Add about 250 bucks an amp to the cost. Something like the M4 with 4 RNP pres for about $1500. I'd have already bought one.

hee hee I guess so! Think I'll get two of them just for spite.

Perhaps because if someone developed a board like a soundcraft M series consisting of class A components, with good preamps, you can kiss firmly goodbye to your 1500 bucks on components alone. Then there is another question........... who considers Sytec preamps quality?

:) Same goes for the Manley stuff.......... I have yet to hear anything they make that I like.

i always thought that mackie's vlz pro series boards were aight...am i wrong to say that?

i mean, compared to like dmp2/3 - nothing hugely costly.

Bull... You can't tell me that it's not possible to solder an RNP in and out in the same path that the dinky amps are already in. If you can insert one there, you can install one there. May have to have a larger case but that's about it. M4 is what?? 500 bucks? $250 (rounded up) each for the amps = $1,000. Everything else the same......$1,500.

Several people in here apparently think the Syteks are good. Quite a few professional studios have them in the rack. I've yet to hear ( read ) anything bad about them. Maybe you know something no one else knows. I suppose that's possible. Not probable but possible.

The BULL bit......
Cool.......... if its bull, then why is such a thing not available?
I tell you what, put your money where your mouth is!! This might be your opportunity of a lifetime! Start a company to built just what you advocate should be done, and sell the product for 1500 bucks.
I'll just sit here watching, and perhaps then it will be my turn to say bull?

The Sytec bit...
Good - maybe, standout - no, definately not. There are better, for sure. Not just a casual remark, but one made after using and listening.

:)

Watch away bud! Hold your breath while your at it. :D

I don't know why someone hasn't done it. But can it be done? Of course it can. If you can make a RNP channel for $238.00 and a 4 channel mixer for $500-600, then you can certainly use a few cents worth of solder to stick those amps in there. That ain't rocket science.

and what's more.........EVERYONE would buy such a piece of gear!! WOW!!
certainly makes you wonder why, of all the gear manufacturers on the planet, nobody has done exactly that - doesn't it?

Well that was my original question, joko. But I still say it can be done. Maybe there's no market. Who knows.. who cares? I'm not jockying for a position here. I just stated that I wished someone would do such a thing and I would buy one. Wasn't really fishing for a moronic debate over my ponderings. Also, I never made a statement about the quality of the Sykek. Who are you arguing with? Yourself? I just said it would be cool if someone would put some pres of the calibur of the Syetek or RNP - yes they are better than cheap mixer pres - in a mixer like the M4 and sell it for a decent price.

I now acquiesce to your obviously vastly superior reasoning powers and knowledge. What a bonehead. :D

aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh finally some just recognition!!!
Thanks EvenIndsey!!:D :D :D

Uh . . . guys . . .

Someone's already doing it .

"The Audio Upgrades Mic Pre Card offers high end outboard mic preamp performance in a low cost miniature package designed to retrofit the mic preamps in mixing consoles. Unique buffered current feedback amplifiers are used with a class A discrete front end offering performance beyond outboard mic pre's."

Maybe you can't actually buy them that way, but how much trouble can sending your console away for a while be?

And as for this whole sticking a sytek in a console thing goes . . . I think someone might have already thought of that, too. :D

You know, I would gladly get some good pres to replace my Behringer pres, don't have the money though. You gotta work with what you have, I say.
