Which volumes are you supposed to set to max if any? Are there any rules that apply to PreAmps, guitars, keyboards volumes so that the mixing is easier or to optimize the quality of each single track?

I use the following equipment:

Which volumes do I set to the max if any?
When recording guitars:
  • Guitar
  • MobilePre
  • PODxt
When recording Keyboard:
  • Keyboard
  • MobilePre

Thanks a lot for your help!

You shouldn't need to set any levels to "max" while tracking. All faders in Cubase (master and channel/track faders) should be set at Unity Gain (no boost, no cut). Set the preamp gain on your MobilePre such that you are not clipping the MobilePre or Cubase. In fact, you should only be registering peaks between -12 and -6 dB (leave some headroom) in the software. I have no recommendations for the POD or keyboard, except make sure they're not clipping the MobilePre, either.
