So I don'n know much about mixing, and especially analog mixing. Tell me if this is how it kind of goes.

So first, for example, you record 8 tracks for a song. So it goes

mic>mixer>recorder.

So now you have a song. To mix, if goes

recorder>mixer>recorder

Is that ANYTHING like how it is? Any simple and fundememtals for analog mixing would be great, thanks!

Oh, and can I mix with a 4 channel mixer, while using an 8 track recorder? How would that work, should I just get an 8 channel mixer for an 8 track? Thanks!

that's about it. if your recorder is 8 channels, it would probably be wise to get an 8 channel mixer.

To be exact it would be
mic >mic preamplifier (and that can be in the mixer)>multi-track recorder
And mixing
multi-track recorder >mixer > two track recorder (let's not get into 5.1 here)
And if you have to sum 8 tracks, you definately need at least an 8 channel mixer.
