and thanks for listening,

Hi Dara

I like the song a lot. The guitars are nice and full. Is there a reason why you are using dynamic mics instead of condensers to record your acoustic guitar ?

Thanks,

Jack Real.

Very good sounding. I like the tone, and the progression is really nice.
Sweet...

Very nice tone captured on the guitar part. Relaxed cool feel to the tune. :)

The canned drums sound out of place to me... If it were mine I'd stick with something natural like a tambourine and maybe a closely mic'd foot tap (I'm thinking barefoot on a wood floor) :D Or add another guitar line higher up at the phrase repetition. The rhythm gtr at the end of the first phrase (:30), where it goes up high, gets a little strained sounding compared to the great sound of the rest of it. I'd punch in a retake of that passage to get it clean and clear because the rest sounds so good.

Listening on my pc the guitars sound sweet, a little thin to me but I am sure that is my poxy pc speakers.

Very mellow and a relaxing little snippet! :)

…well thanks everyone for listening and giving some pointers. I’m going to try and finish this tune at the weekend and repost.

Jack:
Here’s how I recorded the guitar – AT3035 condenser about one foot from the sound hole and a SM57 on the body behind the bridge. Recorded to two separate tracks. The rhythm guitar is panned hard L and R – no eq. The second guitar (fill) is panned off center with 20% separation L to R. The dynamic is backed down in the mix. There is a short echo < 40ms and the reverb is freeware SIR convolution downloaded from www.noisevault.com. I just ‘twiddle’ the knobs until things start to sound good – it’s hit-or-miss for me!

Calwood: …thanks for listening…

Dogman: …thanks for listening …..I’ll probably screw it all up now (as usual) with a big high gain guitar section….

Tim: I think that you a ‘right on the money’. I did want a more percussive feel to the drums, but I only have these rock loops – which I don’t find very flexible. The guitar at (:30) is a little harsh – the guitar has fret buzz and some rattle at the bridge – I’ll try new strings – that can help some.

Gorty: ……thanks for listening …..not sure whether you mean the mix is thin or the guitars?

Thanks again everyone….I’m inspired.

Hey Dara, I was thinking the guitars are a little thin, but that's me listening on pc speakers so they are probably fine! :o
