Hello everyone,
just wondering if there was a significant difference in sound quality between the Delta 66 and the Delta 1010 card? Are the converters better in the 1010, or Does the 1010 just offer more inputs...?....i was thinking of picking up the delta/omni studio for my pc this week...
thx in advance,

Welcome bon,

As far as I know there are no sound quality differences as far as the audio drivers are concerned. The 1010 obviously has more inputs. The 66 uses 1/4", SPDIF, and RCA. The Delta also has midi I/O and optional external word clock I/O. that's about all I know about it. The Midiman site goes into some detail about the specs of each. hope this helps :)

Well, the guy at the store said ....

I'm having a problem with my 3-year-old Delta 1010 (until it fully warms up there's a loud hum ... once it stops humming it works just fine). I went to Mars today and told one of their techs about it and he said the Delta 66 and Delta 1010 pci card are identical ... I don't know if this is true and I doubt Maudio would come right out and admit it. I've sent them an email about my problem but haven't heard anything ... I'll probably call 'em after work today. (Thank goodness for the 2-hour time difference between Texas and Calif).

I'll add this tho ....... my Delta 1010 sounds great!

That is absolutely not true. The Delta66 (and Delta44 and 1010lt) converters are on the PCI card. The Delta 1010's converters are in the breakout unit and have a seperate power supply.

In terms of sound quality, I noticed a difference moving from the Delta44 to the 1010, but it wasn't as substantial as the difference between say my old soundblaster and the Delta44. A lot of my mixes that I thought were solid suddenly had some subtle but obvious problems. I also noticed the 1010's noise floor was lower, probably because the converters are outside the box. I get a pretty solid -96 to -94db floor in all the inputs.

If you don't really need extra I/O or the rack mountable breakout box, then stick with your plan to get the 66/omni. I only got the 1010 because I got an incredible deal.

thanks again, Slack

Slack, Thanks for setting the record straight about the 66 vs 1010 cards ... I had a feeling the Mars salesman might be a suspect source for technical data.

the 1010 does has better converters....it also has the advantage of them being on the breakout box.....

the Delta 44/66 uses AKM 4524 converters......

the Delta Audiophile uses AKM 4528 converters, which is by spec supposed to have 8db more headroom, but being unbalanced and probably not shielded as good as the 44/66....

the Delta 1010 uses AKM 5383 converters for AD and 4393 for DA......probably has a better wordclock too.....

What Gidge said.

Ive had the 1010 for almost a year and the converters are significantly better. If youre monitoring on mediocre monitors you may not hear it but the separation and all around clarity is better. Well worth the extra money IMO. I had the omni/66 the year before that and know what its capable of and when youre track count starts getting up there youll notice a dif.
