Signal crossing over to next track

On my 1/2 inch reel to reel the input signal is somehow getting picked up on track 5 when I record to track 4 or track 6.

I don't arm the track so it doesn't go to tape, but I can see the level being duplicated on track 5 and I think something is wrong.

It only does it when I am in SEL/REPRO mode and when recording. When I stop the tape it doesn't do it.

I also have the auto/select button on in the back of the unit for easy tracking.

Any suggestions?

Is this a head problem?

Will demagnetizing solve this?

It sounds like the channel 5 card is out of adjustment or a possible weak or failing cap on the motherboard that takes all the channel card signals.

It's really hard to tell just from what you've written and probably a trusted technicians experience will be needed to take a look at it in person.

Either way, it doesn't sound catastrophic.
