Side chain input to control a gate from a drum trigger.

Alright I know this is a recording BBS but I have a question regarding a live sound application. And I also realize this is a mic forum but I feel it really belongs hear since it is a micing technique. Is it possible to use a drum trigger to open a gate as opposed to setting the gate to open from volume. The reason I want to do this because in some of the tight clubs where stage space is at a premium, the gates will open from the other amps on stage. The other question is this, doesn't a drum trigger put an unbalanced signal out. How do I get that signal through a 150' snake back to my effects rack?

easy easy easy

just send the trigger into the sidechain of a gate like a Drawmer DS-201. Just make an adapter for the trigger, tie the - and gnd signal to the gnd side...the gate sidechain input will likely be unbalnaced as well...youre not looking for sound quality on this line, just control voltage, so dont worry about it....
