A kinder, gentler DavidK? :D

The haunting Sicilienne by Faure, arranged by yours truly. Lots of violins and keys as usual. All comments/suggestions welcome.

Sicilienne

i love it.

dude, do you arrange things, and conduct and record orchestras, or do you play all of the instruments or something?!?

i love all of your work.

heh post #2000, for a good cause :)

and do you have to pay those musicians or something?

Thanks for listening, Mr. Remix.

I play all the instruments, which is exactly two :D There are 22 overdubbed violins and about 20 keyboard parts. I am a symphony/opera violinist for a living, so its not as hard as you might think for me :D I have numerous arrangements and pick one that works and lay down the keyboards then edit like mad. Laying down the violin stuff is simple, I just hit record. There is only one mic on this recording and one synth. I like overdubs. ;)

yes!

i love it.

so uhh, how hard is it to pick up violin :)

i used to play back in uhh 4th grade, and i see these violins for like $100 on musicians friend.. i know how to tune one and crap, but to play...

thats very cool. i was reading your bio on soundclick, and thats really cool what you do.

very inspiring ;)

Oh, its real easy  :D Violin is pretty hard, especially the bow. Ive been playing 37 years so I really dont think about it much, I just open the case and wham :D

Mine cost slightly more than that. :D
Man, I should have got one of those 100 buck ones at Musicians Friend. :D

Thanks for checking it out, I appreciate it.

either that or i can steal a stradivarius next time i decide to visit italy.

while i'm at it, i'll try to get the vile of san gennario's blood. ;) :D

Very nice David....I like the way this one flows. It has a cool rhythm to it, and just sort of moves along....It's nice and mellow.

Cool man...

I had a girlfriend back in the late eighties/early ninties that played violin, and she borrowed a bow that was 12k! Just the freakin bow. I about crapped myself when she said how much it cost. Needless to say, I never touched that thing!

Anyway, sounds great David! Nice job! :D

Thanks for listening NL5

My last violin was worth 1.8 million   Obviously I didnt own it, if I did I certainly wouldnt be using M-audio gear. :D Or MXL mics :(

OK, now that's just insane. I did hear a real Stradivarius (sp?) once, played by this Romanian gal. It sounded so sad, it actually made me cry - and I'm not afraid to admit that. :) I do see why they go for so much. (although I bet she could have made a $100 violin sound pretty good)

Amazing stuff man...I feel so inadequate at programming midi now ;)

It's a fantastic piece, well done. I think it goes to show what someone with pre-exposure to classicla music can achieve with modern technology. It really is amazing.

It was a Strad, 1685. It was a pain having, you couldnt just leave it in the back seat of the car and get a slurpee :D

Thanks Telepaul. Yeah, 37 years of exposure certainly helps out. The overdub capability is the coolest part, I used to do this stuff on a Tascam 4-track.

Beautiful! :)

The harpsichord on the right might be a little hot in relation to the violins at times. Otherwise just the right balance between real violins and synth parts.

did you have to have it handcuffed to yourself?

i guess it was 1.8mil because it was irreplaceable or something?

what do people let you use their million dollar violins for kicks and giggles?

crazy..

I may be wrong, but I believe most of those violins are owned by people who are very well off, and generally not violinists. The bow my ex borrowed was owned by some rich people that loaned it to students with exceptional skills. The Romanian girl got a Strad loaned to her the same way. Both were students here at the time.

Besides, it's a great investment I'm sure.....
