Hi :)

Wondering if anyone has tried the shure sm7b on toms. If so, do you like the results and what pad settings did you use?

thanks,

I like to use the same mic across my toms--makes the mix easier. And since I only have one SM7b, I can't do that. I'm sure it would sound good though. (I have used it on kick before--worked rather nicely.) And I didn't use a pad on the kick--so I can't imagine you'd need it for toms.

Only on the big bass tom...it gets in the way anywhere else....they are kinda big for that.

If you put it into perspective...its not going to be that much better than a simple SM57...its used on bass drum by some really respectable players....and it makes more sense to buy one than an beta52 since you get the versitility of something you can depend on to be a decent vocal mic.

BTW...I have seen a stage act use the beta52 as a mic for lead vocal...not so bad really.

I haven't used an Sm7 on toms. But, I would imagine it would work pretty well. There isn't a pad on the mic itself, but I don't thin you would need one anyway. The mic has a pretty low output level, so a drum isn't going to over load it.

The switches on the mic are for low frequency roll-off and a mid-range/presence boost. I wouldn't use the low roll-off on a drum, but you might toggle the midrange switch to see which is better for your particular application.
