I just bought a microphone Shure SM58 and i get the same sound that i had with my Shure C606. I have a problem, that, when i record voices, i get some hiss in background. I use windows XP and cool edit. Creative Vibra16PnP

What mic preamp? If it's the mic input on the soundcard, there you are.

MIC

Yes.. its connected directly to the soundcard.
One time i recorded some voices with a console right here, and i got the same hiss in my recordings.

I have two soundcards, a vibra16pnp and a sblive.
i use the vibra16 to record because the sblive have the jacks with not enough space to connect all my devices here.

Like Track rat said, thats your problem.

You need a mic pre amp or a mixer to go between the sm58 and the sound card.

The mic preamp built into the card is extremly low quality and noisy as you've found out. A stand alone mic preamp will give substantially better performance. This would be patched to your soundcards line input, not the mic input. A console could be used in the exact same way. Also, when you patch in a pre to your sound cards line input, be sure you turn off all other inputs to the Windows mixer (Cd in, mic in, etc) as this will make it that much quieter still.
