Hello there people of HR, I would like to ask you all a question on the microphone: Shure SM58. I have recently purchased it, and it seems to be very quiet at about 10cm away from the mic and so I turned the input gain on the Cl1 to get the volume that I wanted.(Somewhere near 100%) But there's this problem whereas its picking up sounds of birds and all, and the background noise is kind of "there".
Here's a preview of it.

But you'll always get that artifact when turning you pre up towards 100%. It's the microphones self noise.

Never mind, I am talking far from the mic, unlike this guy, anyways.

The SM58 is designed to be used close up, the sound changes drastically as you move away. It is designed this way on purpose so that when it is used for live vocals (what it was designed for) the feedback rejection is good when away from the mic.

It is however a very useful mic to have and every studio mic box should have one, it is still my go to live vocal mic.

alan.
