hey guys i just bought the SP B1 over the SHURE SM57, did i make a good or bad decision.. i can't seem to get a good sound when micing a guitar amp. please help.

a sp b1 is great for vocals, and acoustic guitars I've found... be careful when micing a guitar amp with a condenser. a dynamic (ie shure sm57) is great for guitar amps... and just about anything else. but I really love my sp b1. it will be tougher to get a good sound on a guitar amp with a sp b1, but try and angle it down towards the bottom of the cone on the amp about 1 to 6 inches away.

where should i point the front of the mic at.. do u have the SP B1 ?

No, I don't have the B1, but I've always found that a LD condenser is better at a distance on a guitar cab. Usually 4 - 6 feet facing straight at the cab.
That being said, generally when you 'room mic' a cab, it is done in conjunction with a dynamic (sm57) in close...... but not always.

hmm it's funny though, when you read the description for the mic, one of it will say
• Great for close miking amplifiers with high sound pressure levels

does that mean that this mic is less likely to break even when close micing, although it is still a LCD

All that means is that the B1 can handle pretty loud signals before distorting.

If the B1 isn't sounding good for you, try a Shure SM57.
