In other words, and the reason why I think this thread does return again and again, and should do, is from my understanding, that people who already own an sm-58 and want to mic a guitar amp or snare, ask if they need to get a 57.The answer, as I understand, is no, just be carefull when taking the ball off your 58 and with your mic whilst recording, as it is more vulnrable to damage if dropped for instance. To conclude, people who own low budget home studios, and this forum is called HOME RECORDING, sometimes don't have mega bucks to spend on another mic, when the one they already own would do EXACTLY the same job, note they both have the same peak and rolloff. The 58 without the ball is essentially the 57 and any difference in sound quality is so minimal and neither better nor worse. If you own a 58, think you need a 57 (unless you need two of course), you don't, just as I say, be carefull when the ball is removed, obviously!!
