I have a a line on one of these for 35 bucks on craigslist...the only thing I could find online was that this was a harp mic that Little Walter used on his sessions with Sonny boy Williamson....and as far as that goes it sounded good...has anybody else had any experience with this?

I bought it...I beat the guy down to $25 too....it looks great...not a scratch on it...and it has an old plate on it with Shure Brothers...Chicago...so it must have been made in the 40s or 50s...one caviat though...it came with a cord that had the wrong end at the end...which if you look at some of the shure mixers makes sense...but im going to have to buy an adapter just to try it out...Id hate to change the propritary chord that comes with it in case this mic has value...its pretty heavy.

You may find that the mic is High Impedance, a lot of these old shure's were, if you plug it in and it does not seem to be working correctly that could be the case, you will then need a hi to low Z adaptor.

Cheers

Alan

It has 3 way switchable impedance...2 low settings...and one high...with a built in transformer...the litereature I saw said it was from arround 1959...first ones introduced in 1954.

Actually what I was basically discribing was at the end of the mic cable could literally plug into another mic...it was a female XLR.

Any chance of a photo? I have some 545's and some 585 "Unisphere A 's (as well as the usual 58's and 57's) and even a 55 in the past but I don't think I have seen a 535.

Not what I was expecting at all? Even if it does not sound good just having this old stuff is great, I have collected quite a few old mics over the years that don't really sound good and are not worth much money, but they are nice to have just to look at.

If I get time soon I might start a thread with some old mic pics.

Cheers

Alan.

Its supposed to be a brilliant Harp mic...Little Walter recorded through one...I have to get the adapter from guitar center to test it out...I might get one that will allow me to put it through a 5 watt tube amp too if I want to use it for harp.

I got to finally test it today...and it worked just fine...Im going to get the adapter to hook it to my amp and try it with a harp...I really liked how it sounded on some of the old blues recordings.
