Shure PG Drum MIC package. I was browsing an online musical equipment site and I stumbled upon a mic package from SHURE that contains 6 mics for picking up drums. Specifically one PG 52, three PG 56's and 2 PG 81's. Any of you guys have any info or feedback on these microphones?! The price is @ $400 which is attractive. And I'm planning on doing a recording with real drums soon so I need to acquire some mics for that purpose but don't now if this is the "BEST" way to go. Thanks in advance,
Carlos

No. Search for drum mics and you can find a much better set-up for cheaper.

Pair of Marshall MXL603'3 for overheads - $98
Shure SM57 on snare - $79
AT ATMPRO25 on kick $99

TOTAL = $276

If you wanna mic the toms, you can get a pair of Radio Shack 33-3032's or Shure sm57's and still be at that $400 mark.....and youll come out with much better mics.....

about PGs

the PG52 suck on bass drum. I mainly use the e602.

But, the PG56 are doing a pretty good job on the toms.
I have the PG kit without the overheads, so I can not tell how are these, but, like I just wrote, the PG56 are good mics.

I also recently tried the PG52 on a huge 18" DW floor tom (my drummer's gorgeous kit :)) and WOW! Impressive!!

So I have NO regrets buying the PGs. I even bought a 4th PG56...

I dunno how these mics will react on opened, high pitch toms, but they are doing for sure a good job for "rock" drum sound

I have the PG pkg I upgraded to a akg d112 on kik and a sm57 on snare then i used my extra pg56 on the bottom of the snare and have (2) pg 56's on top tom and floor, OH's pg81 i heard they were okay but the snare and kick needed some good mic's and hi-hats i use my ksm 27 i was wondering about using the pg52 on the floor tom and i'll b sure to try it. I'm glad to see someone was getting good sound out of some of the mic's i know the pg52 sucks on bass and the pg 56 doesn't have that high end punch for snare. But I'm happy witht the pg 56's on toms even though theres room for upgrade and the pg81's do the a okay job on overheads.

But I spent my money on a focusrite isa 428 4 ch. pre and 8 ch. 8 card and looking for a upgrade for the ksm 27 probably a rode nt1a maybe but really looking at the ksm 32

Wow! Talk about Resurrecting the dead. All the way back from 2003.

Ive seen this set...and series....Ive avoided them because the SM series mics are affordable enough...but I bought one of the BG series years ago and it wasnt a good sounding mic...I ended up trading it for a real SM58.

The package Gidge listed up there is pretty good...I have the SM81s but Im going to keep my MXL603s because they do have a nice sound...the AT25 is a good bass drum mic....and nice on floor toms.
