At the risk of sounding stupid, which is tighter supercardoid or hypercardoid?
Also, I read i a catologe that the SM Beta 57 has a bass roll off pad to eliminate the proximity effect. Is this true, or just a misprint? What is the difference between the 57 and beta 57?

Sorry Prism, the beta 57 is NOT a condenser (I have both...), it's a dynamic.

Has more brightness or presence than the 57, also its pickup pattern is much more focused.... I haven't heard a huge difference in proximity effect between either of 'em though...

Not stupid at all.....most people think they are the same !.

What exactly do you mean by tighter?

The super is less directional then the hyper. But they are similar.

Really?? Dang, I feel stupid. I could have sworn the Beta 57 was a condenser...but I don't have one so I wouldn't know. I must be thinking of something different that starts with a B...
