I own a Shure KSM27 and it has been my main mic for a long while,i am trying to get 2 different mics.... should i sell my KSM27 and buy a AT3035 and M-Audio Luna.

Any other opinions?

David,
Is there specifically something you don't like about your 27? There are many here who don't love it as a vocal mic, however I've owned one for a year or so and it sees regular use. Seeing from your other post that you also record acoustic guitar, I would think that the 27 would be a regular workhorse in your home studio.

The 3035 is different, but certainly not a step up from the 27. Same with the Luna.

What are you recording? I'm not a big fan of the 3035 for vocals. I doubt it would be a step up, though some people seem to love them for just that. I replaced mine with the kel HM2D.

I agree with David on this. I've owned a 27 for a long time and although I don't love it on vocals I find it a very good "all around" mic. It does very well on acoustic instruments. I don't use mine tons nowadays but I've got a lot more and more expensive mics since. However, if you took them all away and left me with my Ksm27 and my Mxl V67g (for vocals), I'd do just fine.

You would be doing better to start investing in things like SM57's ...save for a good LDC...two SDC...and a bunch of 57's to round out how many inputs you have

The 27 Works fine with the acoustic guitars but i just bought a Line 6 Variax 700 Acoustic and i don't need a Mic For Acoustic Guitar any more, so i am looking for 1 or 2 mics with good quality on voices but not worst than the 27.

I agree...I also don't love the KSM27 on vocals, but I thought it was a great general purpose mic. It was especially good on acoustic guitar. It saw regular use until it died in its sleep a year ago or so. RIP KSM27. :(

Its big brother, the KSM44 is absolutely fantastic on vocals.

sorry -- I've never used any Rode mics

How's the variax thing working out for you? I would think you'd want to retain the option to record your real acoustic (in which case you'd want to hang on to the KSM27 until you'd replaced it with something better for acoustic recording), but I'm just guessing -- never used any Line 6 stuff either, to tell the truth.

So why am I posting? (hmm....) I guess I want to underscore what the other folks are saying -- if you need a better vocal mic, consider that in isolation, which is maybe what you're doing. If you want suggestions in that area and you can provide a link to some recent recordings of vocals that you want to improve, that would help the group zoom in on something. Depending on what you need/want, the answers could be all over the place in terms of mic types, brands and prices, and potential impact on the rest of your signal chain components.

I've got a KSM27, too, and I don't use it for much -- but rather than sell it, I prefer to save up and just buy more mics - that way I can pull all sorts of stuff out of my mic "locker" when the need/whim arises
