I was looking at getting a new vocal mic (using a SM57 at the moment) mainly for home recording. After looking around at various condensor mics I stumbled accross the Shure Beta 87A http://www.dv247.com/invt/3024 .

It looks pretty good to me and it would also come in handy when playing live or practicing. It costs about ₤200.

I've tried looking for reviews but cant find any. Has anyone had any experience one? Are they any good?

Thanks

They've been "good enough" to use at the Grammy's...

Good sounding vocal mcirophone IMHO.
Your local dealer may well have one for you to demo.

Like other Shure's they have a strong "presence peak" to cut through a heavy mix, so you may want to record "flat" (no EQ). Then reduce it (via EQing) during mixing, if indicated.

I love the beta 87.

Used it live ---works beautifully

Started using it as a "go to" mic in the studio for vocalist who feel the need to have a hand held,,,,,,,and/or eat the mic while they sing.

gives you a good condensor sound with hand held convenience.

I'd say go for it.
