Hey, don't laff, but I just had to have one.....So I took the cheap route.
It served me well as a training aide where I learned a little about compression and gating....If I cranked the knobs, I could hear the effect and see it function via the meters...It's a great training aide and low point comparision device.
I recently gave it away to a guy who does KJ. He wanted something cheap to squash the screamers, so free was in his price range and KJ's deal mostly with deaf, drunk wannabe singers who will never hear it pump.
I see the best use for one as a ducking device, you know when the bartender needs to announce that your car is blocking the fire trucks. It works really well at that.
I'm slowly moving up the food chain. I recently purchased the ART Pro Channel....I must say their built in compressor is much more transparent and even tho it lacks attack/release twistys, it actually works rather well for the money.
