All I have is a 100 pounds, no more. All I want is a really good mic that will do me for doing accoustic and singing, simple.

Right after decideing I was going to get a Marshall V67 or something simply becasue 99 dollars compared to UK prices is unvelievable! I discovered on the net these others too for similar prices. I am well confused, but I really would love a condessor. I am going to sell my dynamic Shure 606. It has done me fine though, I must say.

Marshall Electronics MXL1006 Microphone 99 dollars

Marshall Electronics MXL2001P Condenser Microphone with Shock Mount. 129 dollars

Marshall Electronics MXL2003 Studio Condenser Microphone with Shock Mount. 139 dollars.

Is a V67? better. Where can I get one of these for 99 bucks, I read it somewhere but can`t actually find it.

I have 100 pounds and these are all in that price range. They amazing prices compared to here (Scotland).

Any help, rather frustrated. I don`t want to spend to much time on this as I am still doing my Uni exams plus I would love to get cracking on some new songs.

Hey Cooper -

Before you order anything, you better check out shipping costs, and see if there are any taxes on pro audio gear. Better be safe then sorry.

About the mics - I'd stay away from the 2001. I did not hear one single good word about it. The 2003 is supposedly great, but doesn't fit every voice. I have the 1006 and I love it on vocals, accoustic and as a room mic.
What I would do, is go and find a music store hat carries MXL mics (Yamaha is the UK agent for MXL), and check all 3 of them out. See what suits your voice best.
If I were you, I would not sell the Shure. You can never have too many dynamic mics.

BTW: Did you check out my last MP3 post?

You can get the v67 at www.marsmusuc.com for $100. Shipping costs might be a factor.

If your floor is solid, like a concrete slab, you can probably do without a shock mount - the mic comes with a clip that screws on the stand.

Do you have a phantom power source? You'll need this to run the mic's internal preamp.

Cheers

i think Yamaha distributes the MXL mics in the UK

DAW preamp consideration

Erland, you're using a Boss BR532 right (if my memory serves me correctly)? If you're getting a large diaphragm condensor, or any kind of condensor for that matter, it'll need 48V phantom power. Some mics have their own power supply like the CAD E-200 (I'm not recommending that one) or a MXL V77 or Rode NTK (these 2 would be better). There's also the Studio Projects tubes--TB1 and T3.

You're other option would be to get a standalone preamp along the lines of a audio buddy or DMP-3. There were some phantom powering issues discussed sometime ago. I don't know which preamp it was that doesn't supply 48V properly. Anyone? Please correct me on this one...I'm not too sure. Alternatively, you could get a mixer somewhere along the lines of a Spirit Folio Notepad or Mackie 1202 XDR. Katching! Of course there are standalone phantom power supplies, but I figure, you might as well upgrade your preamp section of your recording setup.

I say keep the shure. You've already got a mic that works for you. By all means, get a new mic/preamp or whatever to improve your setup. In all honesty though, regardless of mic or preamp, you're one of those guys that probably sound good through anything. For Pete's sake, you were using a karaoke mic through a budget DAW. The sound?.....Friggin' Fantastic?!?! :) . Or perhaps Erland has just stumbled on magic mic and pre pairing combination?

So yeah, before you get all excited about getting your new mic, I just wanted to point out that your Boss unit doesn't provide phantom powering. Or does it? If it does, forget my preamp rambling, but by all means again, upgrade your setup. :)

It would appear the Boss BR532, although it has an XLR input, has no phantom power, at least according to the specs on their website.

Regarding the phantom power voltage problem, that is probably referring to the Midiman Audio Buddy. Since this has been a problem for me, I'll post it in a separate thread.

Two comments. First, the V93 is a better all around mic, IMO, but a lttle more than the V67. The 67 is a decent mic too, though.

Second, have you checked out Red5 mics? They are distributed in your own country. They offer a single pattern LD condenser for $119.00 that comes with a shock mount and has been getting some great reviews. Check them out. I don't know if that price included VAT, but you can ask.
