switch from my Roland VS1680-based studio to a Firepod/Cubase-based studio?

Have concerns about latency. Is it too much of a pain to deal with? Also saw someone's question re tracking with a stereo source. They indicated that they had to monitor their performance in mono due to limitations (in hardware or software, I don't know).

Should I make the switch? I feel that I would benefit greatly for two reasons primarily:

1) No compressed tracks
2) Better processing for mixing

I'll be using with a P4, 1.8 gHz, 1 gig of ram and will probably get an external firewire drive to dedicate to recording.

Already have decent mics, preamp and compression for tracking.

Have also been told I can use outboard gear for reverb and that the Firepod has inserts on the first two channels for compression during tracking.

Thanks ahead of time for any advice you can give!
