Ok I bought a zoom mrs-1044 off of ebay about 3 months ago, and don't get me wrong it's been fun. But now I see myself growing out of it. It only records two tracks at a time and if I want to record drums I have to get a mixer.

So heres my Idea (so far) Sell the 1044 on ebay and spend some extra $ on a yamaha aw16g. That way I will be able to record a whole live band.

Opinions?

Here's my opinion.

I did the exact same thing. I bought a new MRS-1044 as my first ever recording device. I found quickly that its quality was questionable at best and I could only get 2 tracks at a time. I sold it. Then I bought an AW16g new. Big step up...BUT, the learning curve on that bad boy is quite high and even though it records 8 simultaneously, it only has 2 XLR (preamped) ins. They also don't bother to tell you that channels 9-16 are stereo paired, so you really get 8 channels + 4 stereo channels. This is fine if you want to bounce stuff down. It does have 4 band EQ on each channel though and decent effects. Its a big step in the right direction from the MRS1044, but I still wasn't pleased with it. You may want to look at the new AW1600...its upgraded the old 16g with 8 XLR ins and some more bells and whistles.

For me, I went to a computer based system. Being able to see what I am doing has helped me tremendously...be it editing or creating loops. If I were you, I'd look into getting a decent PC (if you don't already have one) and something like the Presonus Firepod...for the money its a heck of a deal. My next purchases will likely be the M-Audio Project Mix and an additional 8 channel preamp with ADAT outs so I can put 16 tracks simultaneously in Protools M-Powered or any other software for that matter.

Hope that lengthy post helped.

Yeah I've noticed that the quality is kinda dodgey.

The reason I don't want to go computer based is becuase I need to be able to take it to my mates place to record. Hence the aw16g.

Laptop.

That's the exact road I took. The AW16G isn't the easiest thing to travel with really. Personally, I think you'd be better off to go ahead and put down the cash for a good laptop and interface now, rather than buying the G, getting tired of it, selling it at a loss, and the buying a PC based rig.

But, if you're hellbent to get the G, go to http://forum.dijonstock.com Thats a group of guys who are all about the Yamaha and can answer just about any question you have.

Yeah I'm going to go with the G I've put the 1044 on ebay and am hoping a fish will bite.

since you're favoring the yamaha and dont have a prob. purchasing off of ebay get the aw4416 instead. you can get it for the same price or cheaper than the aw 1600 aw2816. you wont be sorry for that price

Allready bid on the 16g and someone has put a bid on the 1044 :)

All smiles today,.
