Should I sell my NT2?

My mic locker is as follows:

SM57
SM58
2 x MXL603Ss
NT5 matched pair
AKG414TLII
AKG451
NT2

The NT5s are going to be sold, just wondering if there's a point in keeping the NT2 - I only record guitars using mics at this point - no drums, no vocals - may branch into v. limited percussion (ie. I own a snare drum and might try recording that) or even (gasp) vocals at some point, but other instruments are not on the agenda.

Any point keeping the NT2??? I could badly use the money to pay off the AKGs quicker!

Cheers

I'll second that. It's a darn good mic, but you've got some great mics that do everything your NT2 does, but better. Don't get me wrong... I own an NT2 myself... it's an early one, and it sounds great, so I'm keeping mine. I always find something to use it on. :)

Armi,

Have a browse on ebay.com.au.........if there are any listed at the moment you may get an indication of how much to sell it for. If there aren't any, now may be the time to put it up for auction,

Most stores will tell you that s/hand pricing is usually based around 50% of RRP if the goods are in good condition...........obviously that can vary considerably depending on what is being sold and the demand at the time and selling privately allows you to set your own level of pricing.

Come to think of it, you should keep the Rode and send the 414 up to me for some long term evalution. We tried one on acoustic (ECW80), about 2 years ago and it honestly sounded like total shit.............the guy that owned it was not a happy camper and I think he is still considering selling it as he hasn't been happy with it since.
:D

Hey there Aus..

Happy with the 414 so far, but it still amazes me how easy it is to get a crap sound out of even really good gear.

Doing a mix on "Stagefright" this weekend (was going to call it "Eternity" - which is about how long I've been working on it!), so I'll burn a CD and send it up to you, and also isolate the guitar parts and burn them separately - see what you think of the sound.

That's the plan anyway.

Cheers!

"See the man in the spotlight,
Standin' up there, gatherin' all his might"

Lyrics from "Stagefright" by The Band.

Sending a CD sounds good. Hopefully I will have things all connected back up in the next couple of days, ready to record at our leisure again:)

If it's one of the old ones I'd keep it.

I think the NT2 is one of the finest U87 knockoffs ever made. I can see it being a nice (brighter) contrast to your 414. Why sell it?

I bought a C1 for my vocals, and sold the NT2 the next day. I guess it depends on the source.

OK, I'm convinced, I'll keep it...

Aus - the title came from a misguided performance of it when it was in its formative stage. We were having an "offsite" day at work, and my boss decided that he wanted me, as the artistic member of the team, to play to everyone else.

Fine by me, but he spent so long crapping on about me by way of introduction, that by the time he shut up my fingers were shaking, and as it's a fastish Travis picking thing, that didn't help in the execution.

I don't get stagefright playing, never have, except this one time. Hence the name - funny you mentioned The Band - hoping to find The Last Waltz on DVD - a band whose songs I only ever hear as covers, but I always like them.

Guess who got "The Last Waltz" DVD for Xmas:D

I think I bought Big Pink back in '70 or '71........... I was introduced to The Band by some hot chickybabe at a coffee shop my CW80/12 and I were frequenting in those days...............ah the memories:D

What are your pre options?
I find the NT2 pretty sensitive to what its being run through. It does well with darker pres. I think its unique sounding, 12k boost aside.

The Last Waltz DVD is awesome. My family hides it from me all the time.
