Hi all,

I have a Yamaha DTXpress Drumkit. The brain either has the MIDI out or one 1/4" out. Do you think it would beneficial to run the 1/4" out thru the LA-610? Unfortunately I won't be able to tweak/pan each sound independently once recorded like I could with MIDI but do you think it would give me a kick-a$$ sound?

Thanks,

No because:

I won't be able to tweak/pan each sound independently once recorded like I could with MIDI

Plus, if you are using the drums samples from the brain, they are most likely compressed already. Adding more compression might make them sound to squashed, you know, that flat cardboard box sound, like I get. If you want to try something, maybe mix your drums to a separate stereo bus and then out to the 610 and back. Or a parallel compression bus ala NYC drums.

just my opinion....

Thanks chili...what if I bypass the comp? I assume when a kit is mic'd up each mic runs thru a mic pre? Never used a live kit.

Bypass the comp. Or record them like normal, and send the whole stereo mix out through the 610 and comp in mono and ny compress it. That might sound cool.

Hey chili and Aaron,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give that a try.
