Should I get a new mic?

What up guys I just bought a MobilePre USB (original huh?) and I'm kinda stupid when it comes to computer recording, but I think I got it down. Anyways, I got this Shure SM58 hooked up into the 1/8" stereo plug in the back of it and was wondering if it would be a big deal. Should I get a condenser mic? I know that the Shure is for live purposes mostly but I was wondering if it would be a worthy buy to get a condenser mic over this Shure mic I got.

On a side note, I have no idea if I'm utilizing this thing right. I'm recording some vocals in Adobe Audition and the waves are barely showing up and plays in at a really low volume. Raising the volume just brings up buzzes and I've been messing with the "USB Recording" and "Direct Monitor" knobs to deal with the latency I get when I record. I feel like I'm missing something with this box. Well anyways, thanks for reading this. Alright peace.

I'm probably going to buy one of the MXL 990's for like $60 on Musician's Friend....good deal....

Before you buy anything else, plug the SM58 into the MIC input (XLR) with an XLR->XLR cable, you're results will be MUCH better. Nothing wrong with using an SM58 for recording.

/\ /\ /\ What he said. You need to go into the XLR input for best results.
