should I "Compact Audio Data" ?

What are the pros and cons of CPA9's
"Compact Audio Data" command?

There seems to be very little info in the manual and
help files, what a suprise........

Do you geeks out there run this command?
(or am I looking for trouble)??
Any input would be appreciated.

It is believed by some that "compressed" will reduce strain on your computer....I suspect that this function does the same thingas the dreaded ".bun" file... creating one long track out of your multitrack song....not a good thing if you ever want to work on individual tracks. I "compressed" a lot of files and songs trying to see if that would solve what ultimately was a hard ware problem and found no appreciable improvement in any way.

I do it all the time, since it's recommended, and I've never had any problem with it at all, but i'm just a geek.

I also do it quite often. Cakewalk claims it helps with playback, and I have found no problems with it.

Kennedy, you are correct, it does the same thing as the .bun file - makes one single .wav file out of all your tracks. However, it doesn't "compress" the data.

If you want to work on individual tracks - just load the file into Cakewalk/Sonar, highlight the track and from the tools menu select your favorite wave editor. This will load the track in your wave editor, from there you can save it as a single wave file.
