g'day, I live in Australia, and building a small studio 16'x20' from the ground up
I am most likely going to construct the building out of brick, as i can get hold of really cheap bricks, as opposed to timber. is there any reason why anyone would not recomend brick? and what are the advantages of other materials?
I understand with using brick i will have to have plenty of base trapping. are there any other things to look out for?

I have included a plan I will most likely use
any comments suggestions quite welcome!!

Looks like a good use of the space. I personally feel that brick is a good building choice. Great thermal insulation, and seems to be decent at knocking down outside noise as well.

~good luck!

if i remember correctly, in one of Steve Albini's 'live' sounding rooms, one wall (maybe more) is completely made out of brick. Hey, if he's doing it then i cant see why anyone would claim that there is something wrong with it.

For good isolaton you no doubt still want to go with a two leaf sytem on the outside walls. Ideally this would be a complete box-in-a-box construction but if that does not pan out you might go with RC on the brick walls with two layers of gypsum board.
