I'm a sucker for road/travelling songs and this one's got a strong melody,good lyrics and I think your voice suits the style of song.
I think the mix could do with some work to both make it sit together better and add a little more clarity though - firstly I think it needs some compression on the vocals to smooth them out; secondly I'd ease off some of the reverb on the acoustic as I think it's too wet and muddies the mix; and thirdly I think both vocal parts are fighting for the same space in the mix at the moment. I'd use some EQ to band them more, with the counter melody occupying some of the lower frequencies and rolled off at some point in the mids and the main melody out in front dominating the mids.

Vocals - pitchy, too far back with all that reverb, jump out at a couple points. Sing it in pitch, reduce the reverb, add compression, should be good to go.
Acoustic Guitar - sounds a like DI mixed with a mic. Also either chorusy or phasey. Too much reverb again.
Other guitar - strange and the delay is throwing me off.
I like the song, I just think a simpler arrangement with better sounding acoustic would be really nice.

I'd say this about sums things up, although Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young got away with singing out of tune for years. This has that sort of feel to it, so you may be able to get by with the vocals. The timing needs some work, and definitely cut back on the reverb, a lot. Reverb is like perfume. A little goes a long way. A lot is too much. I agree that you should focus on the performance a little more, and less on dressing this up with special effects.

Good feedback guys! Thanks! I hear what you are saying on the reverb. As far as the vocals go thats about as good as I can do. Maybe some pitch correction with software. I will try the eq and compression recommendations.

I think if your vocals were put over a perfect backing track, they'd probably sound just fine.
The style of singing gives you a lot of wiggle room, but less than professional use of tuning software could just kill it dead.
Try to tame that reverb, and make the slide part a little smoother,and washier. maybe actually Up the verb on that!

I can't add much to what's been said. I'd focus on the performance. Focus on vocal pitch and sync'ing melody and harmony parts. Forget about effects for a while. Record something and come back to it in a week. See if you still like it. Sometimes a little time away from a recording helps you assess it a little better.

Have you tried comping the vocals? It sounds like you have a nice sounding voice, it's just the pitch. So maybe 8 takes and comp the best lines from each? It's a pain, but I think you can get a good take from 8!

Ok, so I backed off the verb, and eq'd and compressed the main vocals. i also added volume envelopes to kill the secondary vocals where they were interfering.

This sounds way better. Not sure you're there yet, but it's a step in the right direction. It went from an amateurish home recording to a slice of Americana. Sounds more real to me, like a bunch of good ol' boys got together and laid down an honest attempt at making music. Keep working on the timing and mixing, but yeah, better by a mile.

I like this better it's not so weird.
The backing vocals are a little loud and up front, maybe bring them down and add reverb.
It sounds very spontaneous right now, which is fine, but to make it a little more polished sounding, I think the guitars need to be redone. The acoustic sounds DI and not miced.
But, much better...and I still like the song!
